| Gustav Klimt
(1862-1918), the Austrian Symbolist
painter was a founding member of Vienna
Secession. His highly individualistic
style was inspired by a range of sources
from Classical Greek, Byzantine, Egyptian
and Minoan art to wood engravings by
Durer and Japanese Ukiyo-e. Marked by
the intensive colors, golden backgrounds,
candid eroticism and pointed symbolism,
female body was the primary subject
of his paintings. View the artwork reflecting
the aesthetic concerns of turn-of-the
century Vienna’s alluring intellectual
world in our Klimt gallery at World
Images. |
