John Mallord William Turner (1775-1851)
was one of the most versatile and
successful landscape painters of nineteenth
century England. Greatly influenced
by Raphael and Rome he drew inspiration
from his travels around Europe particularly
Venice. Also known as ‘painter
of light’, he is regarded as
one of the founders of English water
color landscape painting. Turner’s
extensive visual vocabulary ranged
far beyond defined renderings. View
Rain Steam and Speed, The Grand Canal
Venice, Burial at Sea and other celebrated
works at our John Turner gallery at
World Images.
