Gallery Description
African Tribal Art is considered amongst the finest creations in the art world In Africa art is considered an integral part of everyday life, as a cross-cultural dialogue, personal therapy, and communication with the Gods and ancestors. The art and artifacts of African tribes are not created for their aesthetic appeal only; African art is religious art. No African language has a word that means ‘art’. However the sophisticated and discriminating vocabulary of aesthetic discourse that exists in many African languages, and concepts of art and creativity are present in virtually all African cultures. As elsewhere, artists work within a social context and as part of a tradition that allows for personal innovation. African tribal art and artifacts include masks, statues, baskets, bronze figurines and so on. Masks are often depicted as the classic art form of Africa. African masquerades are a highly complex and diverse range of cultural practices. The traditional tribal art and culture, as it existed prior to the influences of colonization are still practiced today (particularly in rural communities) and many artworks reaching the market today, date to the era of traditional tribal practices. Our gallery brings a collection of some beautiful African tribal art for you.
