Albert Swayhoover was born in New York City and had his education at New York College at Farmingdale and at the School of Visual Art. Swayhoover was dividing his time between painting and a career in advertising. But when his paintings started becoming popular, he left his job in advertising and started devoting his time completely to painting.
Swayhoover popularized the style of using ‘painting knives’ instead of the brushes. His paintings are noted for the beautiful images of beach grass, the clouds, the seas and the sky which he achieves using his paintings knives. According to Swayhoover, these paintings knives are effective in keeping the shapes crisp and the colors vibrant. It also removes the fussiness of brush strokes.
Albert Swayhoover is a recipient of many prestigious awards. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries all over America and form part of many famous private collections. He is also a member of the American Society of Marine Artists.
Albert Swayhoover is a great lover of nature. Swayhoover says “I love the sounds and sights of boat yards, marsh grass blowing in the wind, old weathered buildings and rocky shores. All of these give me great pleasure and inspiration for my work. My idea of a perfect afternoon is to sit on a dock sketching a harbor scene or to follow a stone wall and discover a wonderful old barn on a snowy hillside."
Swayhoover is a specialist at combining technique with pure artistic impression to give the viewer a complete experience of nature. He has been painting for 35 years delighting critics and collectors all over America.
