Gallery Description
Carol Dyer was born on September 11, 1933 and brought up in Boston, Massachusetts. She was introduced into art by her aunt. Later she had formal training at the Boston Museum for fine arts. She received support and encouragement from her mother who made sure that her daughter had adequate art supplies to learn painting.
Carol Dyer always loved history and her paintings depict the people and places associated with special events or holidays. The notable thing about Dyer’s paintings is that there is nothing vague about her paintings. Her paintings show a contemporary folk style with brightly colored, accurate representations of the objects. The paintings are detailed, cheerful and carefully executed. It was quite some time after she started painting that she began to take art seriously and consider it as a profession.
The first paintings of Carol Dyer revolved around the Delaware coast and the subjects were family enjoying their holidays on the seashore. These geographic locations look very much different now, since the seashores, the small shops and the landmarks have altered with time. Dyer also enjoyed Calligraphy and she tried to incorporate this into her paintings by specifying the names of places and locations in her paintings. This is considered to be a unique feature of her paintings. The viewer can understand the exact geographic location through the landmarks, the signs and placards in her paintings.
Carol Dyer’s paintings also have an association with harbors, seaports and seashores. She has traveled all over America capturing the beauty of its many seashores and harbors on her canvas. She also finds time to research into her all time fascination, the study of history, places and culture.
Carol Dyer is one of the most accomplished painters of early American tradition. Always humble about her work, surprised and grateful when someone likes her work, she was forever enthusiastic about her passion in painting. This passion and love for painting reflects in her detailed, elaborate and beautiful paintings.
