Dolphins are the most liked and talked about sea mammals. They are great friends of humans. Dolphins belong to the whale family, they are actually small toothed whales. Dolphins are usually predators in their natural habitat, but can be domesticated by training. Humans have always been fascinated by them. All over the world people love to watch the Dolphin shows, where they dance and jump in and out of water and enthrall us.
Here are some interesting facts about Dolphins:
Dolphins cannot go to deep sleep because they need to be conscious to breathe. Hence they let only one half of their brain sleep at a time.
Even though they are sea animals they cannot tolerate salty water.
They live like desert animals in sea, drinking only non-saline water.
The average Life span of Dolphins is between 40 and 50 years.
Dolphins mainly feed on fishes. An average adult Dolphin consumes between 10 - 22.5 kg of fish every day.
Dolphins can dive to great depths. They normally dive to a depth of 7 feet but can even dive to about 990 feet. Some species can dive to a depth of 2000 feet or more.
