Gallery Description
The Hulton Getty Picture Collection is one of the largest collections of photography and illustrative material in the world containing over 40 million images, covering prints, engravings, cartoons, illustrations, maps, periodicals, and other ephemera. The Hulton Getty archive begins with illustrations and engravings from the 14th century although its major strengths lie in its unparalleled collection from the years of 1840 through 1985. They provide images of the latest news, sports and entertainment around the world. They were passed on from BBC to a series of private ownership before being formed as a single large force from the amalgamation of several famous presses.
Most of the photographs are award-winning photographs shot by talented photographers from all over the world. What makes Hulton Getty photographs truly wonderful is that they capture the very essence of life, of real people, real moments. Hulton Getty pictures are filled with wit, nostalgia, memories, laughter, tears, horror, sadness, humor, and anger. The depth and diversity in these pictures arouse one’s imagination. Getty images include pictures taken from over hundred years but the pictures are as relevant today as when they were first taken.
The Hulton Getty picture collections contain giclee. It’s a French word for ‘spraying of ink’. Glicee’s have higher resolution than lithographs; this gives them high luminosity thereby improving their overall quality. The Hulton Getty giclee collection was produced from the original negative; this lends authenticity and undiminished connection with the original artist and his subject. All images are printed on 100% cotton rag archival paper using low gamut inks and each is hand titled and numbered on the white border surrounding the image. Once the image is sold out, it is never reproduced.
