Gallery Description
Japanese painting during the early years were influenced by Chinese paintings. Later various schools emerged each of them promoting their own styles. There was a short period when the Japanese embraced the Western style but soon the trend waned. Japanese paintings use a wide variety of media- the horizontal scrolls, vertical scrolls and the folding screens being few of them. The objects were mainly landscapes, views from Kyoto, images from the kabuki theatre, pictures of beautiful women etc. The Japanese paintings depict the sky, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, rocks, and trees as proportionally much larger than human figures. Whereas in Western paintings the human beings are given more prominence. Japanese paintings are amenable to beautiful prints and posters.
