Gallery Description
Monica Stewart grew up in Oak, California. From when she was four, her parents, friends and teachers recognized her natural talents in painting and encouraged her pursue. This encouragement and her own talents got her a 4-year scholarship to San Francisco Art academy. However, she dropped out of school and took up a job as flight attendant. This kept her away from her passion – art, to which she came back 15 years later. This time she pursued art with all her energy. While she renewed her interest in art, she met her old friend, a writer, who was impressed with her art so much so that she bought a lot of art pieces. From then there was no looking back for Monica and now she is rated among the top artists.
Monica Stewart’s paintings are full of beauty and grace. She enjoys working in various mediums but her preferred medium is pastels and she loves brilliance of the colors and the way one can manipulate them. Through her work Monica says that she enjoys exploring typical human experiences. She feels that she has obtained her goal when the viewer can enjoy her work and find a meaning that is both unique and personal. Monica’s works are predominantly women oriented, to which she says, “I have a good understanding of myself as a woman so I do tend to paint a lot of women. I have a lot of girlfriends and we talk a lot. So in my work you’ll see a lot of women interchanging talking doing whatever.” Monica Stewart’s prints have been seen in various movies and TV programs such as: "Waiting to Exhale, "Romeo Must Die," and the sitcom "Living Single." Her artwork has also been featured on the California State Lottery and Bank of America calendars. Check out some of these brilliant art prints in our Monica Stewart’ Gallery.
