Artist Statement
For me each painting is an invention that begins with a visual idea involving the human presence. During the imagining-imaging process the possibilities of narrative drama interests me. Increasingly, however, the connection and sometime contradiction, between that drama and this (here and now) action of painting engages me. I am intrigued by how painted and real spaces are experienced and seek to relate them in my installation work. I intend my paintings to be spaces and signs at once, enacting some human drama but also highlighting the artifice of painting.

Biography
Peter Tong Xiao was born in Beijing, China in the year 1956. Peter Xiao´s work is marked by his personal interpretation of figures and images. Trained at the University of Peking, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Peter Xiao has received several awards. His artworks are being held in various public and private collections across America.
