Science is systemized knowledge derived through experimentation, observation, and study. Scientific community does not recognize or accept anything that cannot be reasoned. Fantasy and fiction is never acceptable by scientific standards. Yet science fiction is a part of fiction that interests many people. It is a form of speculative fiction principally dealing with the impact of imagined science and technology, or both, upon society and persons as individuals.
Like fantasy films, science fiction movies also are hugely popular. There is only a thin line of difference that separates the nature of the two. While fantasy usually involves vivid imaginations of any nature, science fiction is usually imagination of things largely scientific. It involves, creepy creatures that science also talks of, there are robots and other mechanical gadgets causing havoc, creepy alien creatures trying to invade earth and destroy man kind, space vehicles, existence of different planets etc.,
Science fiction movies have a general deep thoughtful imagination that makes man kindle his many semi-conscious thoughts. Many of the science fiction movies challenge traditions; urges one to ask questions and not accept things as told; ask ''what if?'', ''why not?'' kind of questions. It imagines all that is unknown to us. Science fiction movies also make us aware that the universe is not restricted to us, the world we know, people we see. It opens our minds to the possibility of life beyond earth. Thus science fiction movies are not limited to entertainment; they have a role beyond that.
From the time the first science fiction movie ‘A Trip to the Moon’ was made in 1902, to the latest most of the movies have been huge hits. Matrix, The Star War Series, The Terminator are some of the many popular science fiction movies made to this date.
