The technologically superior and efficient automobiles that we see today have undergone ages of evolution to reach this stage. An indication of this evolution can be had from the number of patents involved in the making of the modern day automobile – about 100,000 patents! The very first plans for motor vehicles were made by Leonardo Da Vinci and Issac Newton. During the early years vehicles were powered by steam engines, which was generated by heating water in a separate boiler.
During the 1830s the vehicles with electrical engines came into being, using rechargeable batteries. But these batteries were not very efficient and needed recharging very frequently. Both steam engines and electrical engines were abandoned for the mighty gas engine. There were many different types of internal combustion engines that worked on a variety of fuels. In the year 1885, Gottlieb Daimler invented an engine that could be called the ancestor of the modern automobile engines, And during the year 1886, Karl Benz received the patent for a gas-fueled car. These were some of the notable events in the history of automobiles.
From then on, cars just took off and never had to look back. Some of the earliest car car makers were Gottlieb Daimler, Karl Benz, John Lambert, Henry Ford etc. Oldsmobile, Ford’s Model T, Cadillacs, Buicks were come of the earlier cars. During the early 1900s, most the upper class people had the craze for cars. The newer models were selling like hot cakes and this resulted in the formation of new car companies and better manufacturing technology.
