Gallery Description
Fashion has always been an indication and measure for the changes in people’s perceptions and cultures, tastes and values. Vintage Fashion and Clothing styles were a turning point in the fashion history. The Victorian styles of dressing, the elaborate sleeves and lacework, the heavily decorated hats have all influenced the fashion of the latter years.

The fashion of those years was characterized by the elaborate and decorative clothing styles. The materials used were organza, silk, linen and even cotton. But most of the clothes were made in such a way that they would flair out from the waist accentuating the slim waists of the ladies. The hairstyles were also quite elegant and decorative, done with enormous care and patience. The dresses were worn with matching hats that also varied depending on the occasion.

Ladies were taught the styles of dressing up, walking and talking in a formal fashion. In fact, the elaborate dress with its laces and frills would make movement a skill in itself. And the gentlemen also had their set of etiquette, rules and styles in conducting themselves for specific occasions. The styles of hats used would also vary depending on the social event.

Many people collect Vintage clothing and accessories as a hobby. But due to the age and the fragile nature of the material, they must be stored in acid free boxes, taken out and refolded occasionally. But there are beautiful photographs and paintings of the fashion of those times. In our Vintage Fashion Posters gallery, we have put together a beautiful collection of paintings and posters on vintage fashion. You would find the dresses, hats and the accessories of the Victorian and Edwardian era very fascinating.
