The advertising industry boomed during the 19th century with the introduction of many products and with the consumer becoming more conscious of his choices and options. Health and Beauty products were advertised in many of the Vintage posters.
These Vintage advertising posters on health and beauty mainly portrays beauty products like soaps and lipsticks, perfumes and other accessories that the elegant ladies of those times valued very highly. During those times, it was highly essential for the young ladies to be properly and aesthetically dressed for special occasions and parties. These beauty products catered to their needs
Some of the beauty products like Pears and Brylcreem have withstood the test of time and are famous even now, which indicates the popularity and strength of their brands. These advertisements had beautiful and elegant sketches, which was characteristic of the posters of olden days. The sketches portray beautiful and elegant ladies or little children using and thus endorsing the products. The sketches were quite prominent compared to the ad copy or the text matter. This is also an indication of the tastes and culture of people of those times. Visual aids were given much more importance and reading was not one of the strong points, at least when it came to advertising. This is a stark contrast to the advertising of later times when product features and product comparisons would add a large chunk to the ad copy.
