Gallery Description
From the First World War which started in 1914 and ended in 1919 to the Second World War which started in 1939 and extended all the way to 1945 and the many small wars in between, wars and inter-country fights were very common in the olden times. Kings fought for power, glory or fame and people fought because they had to. Wartime posters were published by the Army, Navy and the Air force exhorting people to fight for their country.
The very famous poster of the U.S Army showing Uncle Sam with a fierce face and the comment “I want you for the U.S Army” is one of the most famous Vintage Wartime Posters. The poster of Rosie the Riveter with the comment “We can do it” is also one of the motivational posters of the Vintage era. The posters were meant to inspire the young men of those times to rise in patriotism and fight for their motherland. There were posters portraying women who were doing various services at the war stations.
Be it the Army, Navy or the Air Force, they all took care to advertise the brave woman who wanted to fight it our like a man, and thus urge the other women to join in. The advertisement poster of the U.S Navy which shows a smart young lass with the comment “Gee. I wish I were a man. I’d join the Navy.” Was intended to tell the lads around that being a man, it was a shame that they were not brave enough to join the Navy.
Our Worldimages gallery of Vintage Wartime Posters has some of the best of the most inspiring posters from the Royal Air Force, The U.S Army, U.S Navy etc. The spirit, enthusiasm and the patriotism of the people of those times is clearly seen in these posters.
